Why this must be read:
I really like the Jayne voice in this pair of stories, and the characterization of Simon feels psychologically sound. These stories are short and sexy, but the sex isn't the point--exploring the the relationship between Simon and Jayne is. The slash begins with an question of ambiguous consent that doesn't go too far, and it ends with really hot sex. The sequel has a section with excellent River voice and ties up the emotional arc in "Dancing Lessons," so I am linking it, too, but the first story is the reason that I fell in love with this fandom.
