This series is based on a "what if" premise diverging from the action of volumes 24 and 25 of the manga, specifically about the Musk Dynasty. Those volumes did spawn so many incredible stories...

Originally, Nightelf wrote Sunrise, and then wrote the four prequels, the Sunrise Chronicles. I strongly prefer to read the Chronicles prequels in order and then Sunrise if I'm still feeling up to it, but other fans might prefer to read them in the order they were written. These stories are based in manga canon, and do include characters I didn't include in my fandom introduction:
- Kurumi and Natsume, orphaned girls who appear in the OAV The One To Carry On
- The Musk Dynasty, including Herb, Lime, and Mint
