He stared at the small patch of shiny brown hair visible above the leaves.
“What, Mr. Bullwinkle? No, he said it was okay. But not like that. When I told him good-bye, he said good-bye back. So I know he doesn’t care--doesn’t mind. Now, shall we read with our tea? I brought “Alice in Wonderland”, and it has pictures…”
The door shut quietly behind him as he slipped into the kitchen, and from there, into the pantry.
