Why this must be read: cgb, who does ScullyAngst like no other, uses the non-event of the Millennium kiss as a catalyst for this gorgeous story. Structured around the contradictions of science fiction and truth, Scully's conflicted nature comes through, as well as what that means in relation to Mulder.
Reality superceded science fiction, she remembers. In Kubrick's 2001 the astronauts wrote figures on pads of paper never foreseeing the advent of the impossibly small computer. Truth may be stranger than fiction but it's the mundane truth that is the real surprise. In the middle of War of the Worlds there's a love affair. As simple as it seems against the backdrop of the Martians landing it's the only element of the story that isn't likely to be resolved by a virus - or an antidote.

You know, I really should have called that story "Science Fiction" as I originally intended. But it was a part of a multi-fandom trilogy and all the other stories had titles that began with "I" hence, "The Impossible." Everytime I look at at I think, what was that one about? And then I remember, oh that was the one that was supposed to be called "Science Fiction"...
Just a boring piece of trivia...

And I like the title. It fits really well. *g*
