Why this must be read:
The short version: I want to rec this because I love Leo.
Leo is an elusive character for most people, I think. Fic land often, in my experience, either doesn't even try to understand him and how he remains both upright and incredibly cool (often just having him as the Grumpy Boss or whatever) or uses fic as an excuse to write a treatise about him. Neither works; Leo's not a caricature, but he's not one to psychoanalyse himself all the time either, especially not to someone else.
This fic, though... it's just a slice of life, a brief glimpse of Leo. But it's such a good glimpse, and so evocative in its sparcity, that you get more of Leo than you would in a whole plethora of essays.
It's also a beautifully written piece that's got a kind of achey sweetness to it that'll make you want to sit on a cliff top and watch the moon rise with someone you love, although that may just be me being weird. There's some nice ensemble-ness in there too, a real sense of a communal context for the fic which is all too rare in character pieces, and that's nice. Mostly, though, it's all about the Leo. 'Cause he's great.
