I realized this morning that it was one year ago today that crack_van posted its first rec, so Happy Birthday to us!

I read in literally dozens of fandoms those first few months--glittery fandoms with their undeniable charms--but it was Harry Potter that made me his its bitch forever. If you haven’t given this fandom a chance, you should; by virtue of its size (both in terms of the fan-base and the cast of characters) it’s wildly diverse and dynamic, and--wanktastic, lunatic fringe aside--it’s filled with friendly and generous fen. I write love letters to the fandom in my head at least once a week, and am really excited about sharing some of my favorite fics this month. <3

Why this must be read:

It was the rec for Zahra’s Crush Trilogy that made me first crave more H/D, but it was Worst Happiest Day that made me a junky.

If it weren’t so very good, I’d feel a little guilty recommending this fic over some really stunning examples more typical of this author’s dark, kinky style. I’d rec every one of them if only I could! But Amanuensis is equally skilled playing on the silliness of JKR’s universe as she is exploring its darkness, and Worst Happiest is pure comedy. It’s also a perfect snapshot of the things that appeal to me in my OTP: mad obsession, madder denial, and above all, an instinctual drive to get into each other’s pants.
