Why this must be read: Because I saved the best 'til last. This is one of my all time favourite stories, in any fandom, and Alestar one of my favourite writers.

Throw My Head Away is no superheroic epic, there's no near death experiences or saving-the-world, and while there are codenames galore, no costumes. But it's as quintessentially X-Men-y a story as there is.

Because it's all about the love, my friends, the whole network of ties and history and friendship that make the X-Men a family before they're a team, like all the best stories are. And it's about what makes Bobby Drake, Bobby Drake. I've read it sixteen times or so, and loved it each and every time.

Ooh, I totally second this rec. It's my very favorite X-Men comics story, and I just adore her snarky Bobby and gently amused Hank.
