"Return" by Dira Sudis (PG)

Why this must be read:
I had a hard time picking which of Dira's stories I wanted to rec - go for the funny one, or the sentimental one? In the end, I decided to go with the one that first brought Dira to my attention. "Return" deals with the aftermath of season 1's "Fire and Water," as Jack, Sam, and Teal'c try to overcome their memories of Daniel dying. And even though he's back safe with them, they have to deal with the fact that, however inadvertently, they once left him behind.

One of the great strengths of "Return" is that it effectively moving, really makes you feel their hurt and psychological trauma without going overboard into sappiness or over-written angst. It captures each team member's language and personality, showing perspective from each of them, as the SG-1 family bond grows tighter.

Return

(But do go read her other SG story "A Small Error in Translation," too.)
