The Last Grey Ship by ErinRua (G)

The Last Grey Ship by ErinRua (G)

Fandom: Lord of the Rings
Pairings: none, though you can read it as Gimli/Legolas if you choose.
Author's homepage: http://www.freewebs.com/lord_ofthe_rings/index.htm
author on LJ: it looks like she just created herself an LJ - [livejournal.com profile] erinrua. spooky timing, that.

Why this must be read:
In formal "high" style, Erin tells of the last days of King Elessar, of Legolas and Gimli saying goodbye to the last of their dearest friends, and of the sadness of watching the world change around you. The story is threaded with a heavy, but lyrical melancholy, and though slightly stiff in the occasional spot, has a very Tolkien-esque feel in language and spirit. Like the end of LotR, the Last Grey Ship manages to be both sorrowful and sweet at the end.
