The First Step by C. L. Finn

It's my last rec for Homicide, sorry to say--it's been great catching up with some awesome stories over the last month or so. Hope y'all have enjoyed them, and I look forward to next month's recs!

Fandom: Homicide: Life on the Street

Pairing: Tim Bayliss/Chris Rawls

Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] trixiesfic

Author website: Subtext Happens for CL Finn's (non-sparkly) fanfic; Trixie's fic can be found at Isn't That Something.

Why this must be read: Our dear Trixie, like [livejournal.com profile] beth666ann and [livejournal.com profile] stubbleglitter, wrote other forms of slash before she started writing popslash. Writing as CL Finn, Trixie wrote some really great stuff in a bunch of different fandoms, including this lone (alas!) Homicide piece pairing Tim and Chris. I've been saving it, because it's that good. It manages to capture Bayliss as being a little confused, a little nervous, but without portraying him as completely naive and insecure. This is a Tim who may not be sure about what he wants, but knows how to go about finding out--and how to get it once he figures it out. There are nice nods to canon, too.

It was the same Detective Timothy J. Bayliss staring back at him that he saw every morning. Sleeping with Chris hadn't transformed him into a different person. But there was something different-- a few shadows were gone from the recesses of his eyes. Not all, but some. And he was smiling. He was content--maybe not exactly happy, but definitely content. And freer somehow.
