Since it's Election Day in the US right now, it seems only right to kick off my month of recommended West Wing fics with an election story.

Why this story must be read:
musesfool is an amazing (and incredibly prolific) writer who has already been recommended in other fandoms, but her work with the West Wing characters should not be overlooked in the stampede towards her current writings in the world of Harry Potter.
Rob Lowe's decision to leave the cast of the West Wing forced the show's writers to come up with a reason for Sam to leave the White House. They gave us a Congressional race in the California 47th, a story line that culminated in an improbable win by a dead Democratic candidate in a historically Republican district.
Vic's story gives us a Sam's-eye view as he realizes that his promise to the candidate's widow will actually have to be kept. Lovely prose and a note-perfect internal Sam voice makes this a must-read.
