When I was thinking of volunteering to take a turn as the Highlander driver I remember looking over all the past recs to see if there was anything I could add to them. I was shocked to see that so many of my favorite stories had not been rec'd yet. This is one of those that I was utterly baffled by the fact that no one had rec'd it yet. That, however, means that I get to. *grin*

The thing I like about this story is the sense of quiet, of peace that pervades it. There is no great, violent heated moment between the men that leads them to their true feelings. This story has more of a sense of the final culmination to a lengthy courtship. The lead in to the event has been a slow one, not without a few bumps along the way. They both knew this was coming and when it finally does it brings a sense of peace and rightness with it. They both know it's time, that they are both in the same place finally.

I love the aspect of Duncan reflecting back on those he has loved before as a ritual before he starts a new relationship. It seems to signal a readiness in him for a new beginning. The pain of the past healed and he can look back on it with love and fondness. He's ready to move on from it.

This is a beautiful story. The perfect kind to kick back and read on a lazy Sunday. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
