Spirit of Brotherhood by Torch (PG)
Fandom: HARRY POTTER
Pairing: None; Severus Snape, Remus Lupin, and Sirius Black
Author on LJ:
flambeau
Author Website: the flambeau factory
Why this must be read:
So, this is one of the many bonding stories to be found in the HP fandom, but this one is gen, and I liked the way Torch wrote this story of three men with histories who have to get past that to work together. It's a sober, almost melancholy story, befitting a group of men preparing for war. The Remus/Sirius friendship is lovely and nuanced, and Sirius isn't a complete jerk like he is in many stories.

I pretty much love all her HP stories, but I like this one best just because of how she handles Snape, and the fact that there's a bit of hope in me after reading it.
I also like that the grounds for resentment between Remus and Sirius are acknolwleged without it becoming some huge angst-wallow, and yet one sees the deep love they still have for one another. No one knows your faults like an old friend...

It's sooo hard to choose, isn't it? Especially since the waiting list to rec again is about a year long.
