Before Sally was Sally by Kelly (PG)
Fandom: SPORTS NIGHT
Pairing: Sally/Various
Author on LJ:
khohen1
Author Website:
Why this must be read:
Sally is something of a maligned figure in the Sports Night fandom. Often portrayed as little more than a predatory female who wants nothing more than to sink her claws into Casey or to knock Dana off her perch, next to JJ, she is the ideal target when a bad-guy is needed for a story.
Yet there is also something very vulnerable about Sally, a quality that is often overlooked in favour of her less admirable character traits. But if you listen carefully when she tells Dana that Casey doesn't like her very much, you get the feeling that there is a whole lot more to this woman than she's willing to let on.
In Before Sally was Sally, Kelly explores the woman behind the killer heels and the fierce ambition to succeed. Starting when she is four, we watch as the Sally we finally meet in Sports Night evolves through adolescent uncertainty, her early days in sports reporting, and on through her time at CSC and beyond. By the end you feel that even people like Sally deserve to be happy, no matter what they may have said or done in the past.
