Shell Game by Miriam Heddy (NC-17)
Fandom: SPORTS NIGHT
Pairing: Dan/Casey

Why this must be read:
Dan's in a rut and Casey takes it upon himself to help him out of it, which then leads to Indian food, interesting turtle facts, lots of drinks and, of course, hot monkey sex.
The rundown meeting was in three hours. They needed a draft by then, at the very least.
"Dana's going to kill us."
"Well, that would be new, anyway," Casey said, not sounding too concerned.
"Hmmm. So you're saying that maybe we should let her kill us to force us out of your rut?"
"Our rut, Dan. This is a shared rut. We're joint owners of this baby."
"Right." He sat down on the edge of Casey's desk and crossed his arms, considering. Just because he would have described the rut as a fairly comfortable two occupancy office didn't mean he was ready to dismiss Casey's diagnosis. They had been doing this same thing for ten years. Most marriages didn't last this long without getting a little stale. So maybe he and Case were getting stale. "So do you have any real ideas about getting us out of this rut?"
This would have to be one of my favourite stories in the Sports Night fandom and it's hard not to like it. Miriam Heddy has a wonderful writing style and the narrative just flows along smooth as silk. She has a firm grasp of the boys, never once letting them do something out of character and staying true to their partnership. Her dialogue is excellent and I love Dan's voice in this. You can feel how much he cares for Casey and how worried that his need to try something new will ruin their friendship. But Casey is way cooler about things than you might expect and in the end you know it'll be okay.
