Why this must be read: It is so rare, for me, that second-person POV actually *works* in fic. This one does. Five smallish scenes capture Merry having a "big-feeling" for Pippin.
You would like to stop walking and have this conversation on a log or on the ground, but you have a feeling Gandalf wouldn't understand. So you reach for Pippin's hand instead and keep the pace. "If you tell me what I've done, I can tell you I didn't mean it and then you'll be yourself again. Right, Pip?"
