Why this must be read: I think, at its most basic, that this is a story about the rules of war and what happens when the war is over. It's hauntingly bittersweet, with spot-on characterization. Zarah never attempts to take the easy way out.

It was everywhere. Darkness still seemed to envelop, choke him, swallowing all sounds. Cold. The smell of blood clung to his skin, sickeningly sweet, and Aragorn needed...

He needed. It really was as simple as that.

Oi. Thank you so, so much. And yes, that's what I intended it to be, mostly. The rules of war, and how extreme situations make things possible that normality prevents. Something like that was my intention, only even less coherent. ::g::

Oh, good, I'm glad my summary works for you-- I had a problem condensing the central idea down into a couple of sentences. I adore your fic, by the way. I was actually really surprised that no one had recced it before. :)

Reccing is always a very random process. There are lots of stories that make me wonder why they haven't ben recced before, so... And also, thank you very much, because you made me reread and remember this story (which I haven't done in ages, really), and hey, I decided I actually wasn't unhappy with it. Which I am with a lot of my older stories, so yay. ;)
