The Toronto Series by Tangerine (NC-17)
Fandom: X-MEN COMICVERSE
Pairing: Warren/Jean-Paul (Angel/NorthStar)
Author on LJ: not that I'm aware of
Author Website: Tangerine's Dream
Why this must be read: I admit that my education in the ways of NorthStar came a bit backward. I never collected Alpha Flight and I never really read it much either. I was first introduced to him (in anyway other than the basic comics knowledge that he was the gay member of Alpha Flight) through fanfic. I truly believe it's this series that really gave me a look inside of his mind.
Jean-Paul is such a complicated character (something I don't feel was explored enough during his stint on Uncanny but I'm just a fangirl, what do I know Mr. Austen. /rant) and this series explores that without making any excuses for his behavior. He's brash and he's a bit abrasive but it's all to hide his deep down vulnerability and who doesn't love that?
Not to mention Warren is also just stunning here as he grieves for and says goodbye to Betsy. (He's in the post-Apocalypse pre-Black Tom incident phase, meaning no more metal wings but he's still got the blue skin) He's dealing with all the pain of his past all while trying to find love again, with a man that's just as bitter and broken as he is.
And did I mention the hot *HOT* sex? Because if I failed to, I'm mentioning it loudly, right here. The sex in this one is absolutely smoking.
So that's woobie, angst and unbelievably hot sex, what are you still doing hanging around here for?
Toronto
The Edge
Inside Out
there's also a lighter companion piece to these, Caribbean Blue
