Author’s summary: Booth, Bones, and Sweets at the bowling alley. "You know, it's a statistical impossibility for Booth to be good at everything." Oh, Sweets. That is so untrue.

As much as I don’t care for Sweets, I love the moments when Booth and Brennan lend him a shoulder. This is fun little glimpse of their evening at the bowling alley post-Sweets’ breakup with April, and dress without sleeves manages to pack an impressive amount of characterization into just over 500 words.

I didn’t think Howard Epps could get any creepier, but then I found this vid and was proven wrong. Using the perfect song and some of the best editing I’ve ever seen, parlai creates a chilling and unforgettable ode to everyone’s favorite serial killer. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve watched this, and it just gets better every time.

Author’s summary: pull it till it breaks (or, an assortment of moments collected among the living and the dead (but mostly the dead)).

I was as upset as everyone else that canon skimped over the fallout from Booth’s “death” in S3, but what lacks in canon is more than made up for in fandom. This is a lovely, poignant look at Booth and Brennan’s relationship both before and after Booth “dies.” What makes this fic stand out for me is that instead of focusing on Brennan’s anger, falseeeyelashes focuses on the complexity of Brennan’s thoughts as she tries to understand her shifting world. A background serial killer adds an additional source of tension to a bittersweet and haunting story.

As TamsinBailey points out in her AN, there’s no reason that Brennan would be any less opposed to marriage in the Lab!verse than in the Jeffersonian!verse, yet “The End in the Beginning” showed us a happily married Booth and Brennan. This fic acts as an origin story of sorts for Booth and Brennan in the Lab!verse, beginning at their initial meeting and following them as their romance unfolds. I love so many things about this fic. I love the narrative technique; the fic is divided into nine achronological segments, giving the story a unique kind of pacing. I love voleuse’s ability to write a story that is both great casefic and still very character-driven. Finally, I love that this fic harks back to Season 1 (Wong Fu’s! Goodman!), a timeframe which makes me feel all kinds of giddy.

I’m not generally a fan of baby!fic, but this is so gorgeous and funny that it grabbed me right off the bat. I love the circuitous narrative style here— daygloparker jumps in and out of different moments in the story, picking up various threads before bringing us full circle. My favorite part has to be Booth and Brennan trying to pick out a name, which goes just about as smoothly as you’d expect. In my perfect world, this is exactly how Season 7 would go down.

This fic is short, but it packs a wallop. A hurt and frustrated Hodgins reflects on his tattoo after he and Angela have gone their separate ways. What really stands out for me here is the anger; with everything going so well for Hodgins in canon right now, it’s easy to forget that he was once a very angry and cynical character. This fic taps into that lingering bitterness and makes him pop right off the page.

Author’s summary: The conversation at the end of "The Man in the Outhouse," and what came after. Short and silly, with no real point except that this makes me happy.

Here’s the thing: I am not the world’s biggest fan of Daisy. Nor, for that matter, am I any sort of fan of Sweets. But this fic. This fic. sotto_voice nails their voices so well it’s scary, and her take on the evolution of their relationship is basically head-canon for me at this point. This fic makes me smile no matter how many times I read it. Also make sure to check out the sequel, Don't Get the References You Refer To, which is just as awesome as the first one.

Why this must be read:

A good crossover brings together two fandoms without compromising the characterizations or flavor of either fandom. This little gem of a fic does that beautifully. All of the humor and quirkiness of both shows is present, and it's fun to see the mirroring of characters, with Fraser and Brennan both being tenacious and a bit eccentric, and their long-suffering partners in their exasperation.

For one, there is not nearly enough fic written about characters other than Booth and Brennan, especially Jack. For two, this is a very nice look at Jack and that sort of angry, hurt man that's there just beneath the surface, at least when it comes to his break-up with Angela. It is a nice character piece that gives us a taste of how hard it must have been for him seeing Angela move on without him.
