'Vicarious' by Tessabeth (NC-17)

Fandom: PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN
Pairing: Jack Sparrow/Will Turner
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] tessabeth
Author Website: None
Why this must be read: I'm not ordinarily a Jack/Will shipper, but [livejournal.com profile] tessabeth's stories make me believe, and this one, which is quite different and darker than her others, is also the most convincing scenario. As the esteemed author says in her introduction, ...what would reality look like? What would cursed eighteenth century pirates really be like, without the firm hand of Mr. Disney's lackeys? (Yeah, I know I'm into deeply oxymoronic territory here.) What would really make Will have sex with Jack? And her answer: Elizabeth at knifepoint.

A thoroughly unsavory premise, you might say, but in [livejournal.com profile] tessabeth's skilled hands it becomes a thing of beauty, an opportunity for Jack to teach, and Will to learn, how to endure even the darkest of experiences and find the good and the true at the heart of it.

As Jack says, "What we need to do...is get ourselves through tonight. And tomorrow, new things will happen, and chances may present themselves."

Vicarious

Wow. Thank you so much for this rec. Excellent writing and believable motivations (if *cough* a bit dark).

Oh, love the dark in this.

I don't get to read much of that in this fandom because I tend to see lots of silly (which I don't mind at all.)

Good God, that was hot. Only the 2nd fic I've read in this fandom but I'll have to read more and definitely more by this author.

Ummm, wow, thank you! Am really glad you liked it.

And from one half-dutch girl to another, gotta agree with you on the Dirty Boys :)

Thank you for the feedback! Am always relieved when people don't find this particular one too dark. But hey. Some days you need silly. Some days you need... umm, something else :)

Thanks so much for the comment! I really appreciate that you liked the piece enough to comment on the writing, even though it was (I freely confess) a bit on the vicious side. Thank you :)

Hooray for the Dutch! ;-> I'm really more in the Lost fandom but who doesn't love those two beautiful boys together? Your writing is just gorgeous, too. Really nice!

Say, I went to your LJ but not much there! And your web site on your profile is giving me a 404. So is all your stuff only on that POTC site?

[identity profile] snooboostoo.livejournal.com 2005-03-10 07:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Well this one was dark, but what kept it from getting too grave was Jack's voice in this.

Loved it.

Hah, Geek Mama keeps telling me to put it on LJ properly.

All my J/W stuff is only on that POTC site, now, yeah. But for the last, what, nine months I've been writing Pirates/Quicksilver crossover which lives on the impofperversity LJ community.

I am battling hard with resisting writing Lost at the moment. Oh God, Sawyer does my head in. The dimples! The dimples! Got any tips on the good stuff there?

[identity profile] halfdutch.livejournal.com 2005-03-10 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, get it up on LJ! I have to read more of your stuff. But what is Quicksilver?

Funny you should ask ... I just started a comm, [livejournal.com profile] sawyerficrecs, which is just what the name implies.

I also write oodles of Sawyer-centric fics myself, mostly with Jack lately. That's Jack from Lost, of course. ;->

Whoa, did I ask the right person the right question or what?! Spent a happy hour last night reading your Sawyer fics, and getting my Sawyer fix, as it were. I enjoyed it so much! Thank you! You do a mean Sawyer-voice. Am doubtless going back today :)

As for Quicksilver, it's the first book of Neal Stephenson's Baroque Cycle, three massive volumes of absolute genius featuring vagabonds, pirates, philosophers, heads of state, ex-harem girls, coiners, and alchemists. Rich pickings indeed. There's a wonderful character in there, Half-Cocked Jack Shaftoe, King of the Vagabonds; he and Sparrow are my utter OTP. In fact, I started my Sawyer Thing because I was looking for physical representations of Shaftoe - needed something blond, blue-eyed, unkempt, wicked, funny, fierce and dimpled. Sawyer's the perfect solution, I swear. All he needs is longer hair and a London drawl... well, and the half-cocked thing of course, but that's a whole 'nother problem :)

Anyway, thank you so much for the pointers and the reading!

Glad you liked my fics. Yes, I am a Sawyer-holic! ;-)

Quicksilver sounds pretty cool. Who doesn't love pirates?

I'm going to friend you, even though its seems you're barely on LJ.
