Why this must be read:
Pearl-O is another of my favorite authors in this fandom. However, she’s never been recced here before, for entirely mysterious reasons. Her writing style is generally spare but powerful. You really get the sense of a complex emotional and physical landscape distilled to its bare essentials.
Again, I debated for a while over whichpearl_o fic to rec. It came down to this one and The Outline of a Circle, but I finally settled on “Thirteen Facts…” because I’m such a whore for RayK, and this is one of my favorite RayK fics of all time.
The story is comprised of 13 expertly crafted vignettes that flow together so smoothly you'd almost miss how perfect the structure of the whole thing is. They take us from Ray’s birth, through the Stella years, all the way up to some point past CoTW. I can’t even pick a favorite fact- they’re all fabulous. It’s a short story, butpearl_o somehow manages to just capture this complicated character in only a few words. I’m still in awe.
