Sink with the King (The Tempestuous Remix) by Apathy (PG)
Fandom: Farscape
Pairing: vague mentioning of John/Aeryn and D'Argo/Chianna
Author on LJ:
apathocles
Why this must be read:
D'Argo is one of those great underused characters in Farscape fanfic. He is a jumbled mess of emotions and conflicting desires and in many ways has layered the best over the run of the show. The D'Argo of S4 is a far cry from the one we know from S1. He has grown up, matured and truly come into his own. Few know how to get into D'Argo's head like Apathy. Her skill in seeing the other side of the coin is never better represented than here.
He feels lost, the warm presence against his side doing little to alleviate the feeling. He tries to fashion foreign constellations into something meaningful, but fails. This isn't Luxa Prime, and these aren't his people's oldest stories stretching out above him. He can still remember the patterns from long, balmy evenings spent outdoors as a child, the six holy tales interwoven across a blood-black sky. Can still recite them all, even now. He would love to pass them along to Kai, voice dropped to a deadly whisper as he recounts how Belron slaughtered his own family in order to gain an audience with the ancient gods.
The stories have lost a little of their mystique over the years. He knows now that the region of the Sun-Hunter's hind heel is home to Rellakh Six, and endless swamps that make Rygel -- spirits rest him -- smell sweet by comparison. The brightest point of the Orican's amulet is a magnet for sleaze, gambling, and general depravity.
The corner of his mouth twitches upwards for the briefest of moments. He had quite enjoyed himself there.
Reality can never live up to the idealised myths and dreams of youth. He learnt this lesson early, and he learnt it well. He is a realist; it is how one survives in this universe.
He only wishes that Crichton were not such a stubborn student.
Go read and don't forget to feed the author.

Thanks for this. There's a dearth of good D'argo out there. I know *I* can't write him worth a crap.
