Fandom: HARRY POTTER/FARSCAPE
Pairing: None
Length: 300 words
Author on LJ: [personal profile] fourteenlines
Author Website: N/A
Why this must be read: Okay, this is pure crack. I admit it, the author does as well, but it's fun. Ever wonder what the Golden Trio would do after the war? Well, here's your answer! You don't need to know anything about Farscape to enjoy this.

15th-Jan-2010 11:40 pm Ends in Fire by ijemanja (PG-13)
Fandom: FIREFLY/FARSCAPE
Pairing: Crais/Zoe/(Talyn)
Length: 1260 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] ijemanja
Author Website: just her lj
Why this must be read: This is a very spare and subtle story, as interesting for what it doesn't say as what it does. Ijemanja leaves a number of questions with only shadowy hints as to the answers; this could have felt unsatisfying, but it doesn't. Instead, it only reads as natural for Zoe, and wholly a consequence of her laconic and reserved manner. The character dynamics are excellent, and they present interesting possibilities for the future that will keep you wondering about this crossover 'verse for days after reading the story.

15th-May-2009 10:39 pm Terminator: the Sarah Connor Chronicles/Farscape (none listed, I say PG-13)
Title: Untitled, by [livejournal.com profile] life_on_queen
Pairing: none
Length: ~1,500
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] life_on_queen
Author Website: none listed

Why this must be read:

This fic has no title. Nor was it meant to have a title. Or, really, to even be a fic, rather than a jumped up drabble of only 150 words or so. But as happens, the characters took on a life of their own and told way more of a story than [livejournal.com profile] life_on_queen intended, giving us a glimpse of John Connor through John Crichton’s eyes, and of the wasteland that Crichton’s home world has become because of Skynet.

Excerpt: Three days after Moya came out of Starburst… )

Enjoy! And mind the little twist at the end... ;)

Title: Contredanse
Pairing: Zoe, Aeryn, post-StM crew (gen)
Length: c 5600
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] cofax7
Author Website: alchemy, mouldiwarps, and coprophagy
Why this must be read:

This was written for the 2006 Thelma and Louise GalPal Ficathon. It's a lovely outsider take on the crew, with reticence and discretion on all sides, as secrets are edged around, and a working relationship nonetheless formed. Quick and sure characterisation - and also a caperfic, complete with explosions and one of Mal's plans going inevitably wrong : there is no bad here at all.

Fandom: FARSCAPE
Pairing: none
Author on LJ: [profile] hossgal
Author Website: hossgal's fic homepage
Why this must be read: Rygel has a conversation with Crichton. One of those rare moments of solemnity and introspection for the little guy.

"Well, Sparky, I'd say glad to be here, but I'm not. And you're not coming to the point. What's up?"

"Perhaps I only wanted a conversation, with a friend."

"You don't have any of those here? I must have passed half a million little green guys between the driveway and your door."

"I am Dominar. I have servants, syncopates, simpering concubines and scheming advisers. I do not have friends."

Aeryn searches for John in an eerie tale written so beautifully that it seems more like some sort of myth than a fanfic.

Fandom: FARSCAPE
Pairing: John/Aeryn
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: unknown
Why this must be read: This story deals with those everyday hard choices in the Farscape-verse: whether to betray your husband and the galaxy, or let your child die - and what happens after you had to choose. Aeryn chooses to leave. John chooses to wallow in depression. Chiana tries to fix it, and eventually so do John and Aeryn. Very interesting post Bad Timing fic with plenty of Peacekeeper intrigue and wormhole action.

4th-Jan-2008 12:51 am The Embodiment of Hope by AstroGirl (PG)
Hey, I'm [profile] 50thousandtearz and I'll be your driver for the Farscape van this month. I'm mainly into John/Aeryn, but considering how most of the good stuff has already been recced, I'm going to try to do some other things, we'll see how that goes. I'd like to encourage people to sign up to rec Farscape, I'd hate to see this fandom get dropped.

Fandom:

Pairing: Stark/Zhaan, minor John/Aeryn
Author on LJ: [profile] astrogirl2

Why this must be read: I don't usually read mpreg, but astrogirl handles the subject so well in this case that I made an exception. The mechanics behind the pregnancy are well thought out, and the Stark/Zhaan is rather sweet.

Fandom: FARSCAPE
Pairing: nothing outside the show
Author on LJ: n/a
Author Website: n/a
Why this must be read:

It's canon that the Moyans often had to deal with dwindling to non-existent food stores; a detail that many fanfic writers used to their advantage to great effect. The same is true for Izzy's story. "Caught Between Wind and Water" is a fluid ensemble piece set after Season of Death, and while the world building is interesting, I think the strength of this story lies in its characterizations, the familiarity of the crew we've all come to know and love. It feels like early season three, and in my opinion worth the read.

Title: Welcome to Hezmana
Pairing: Veronica/Logan, Aeryn/John
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] keepaofthecheez
Author Website: LJ memories
Why this must be read:

I'm reccing this despite not being the biggest Veronica/Logan supporter because I really like how [livejournal.com profile] keepaofthecheez addresses the blurred lines and false starts of their relationship while having to cope with their new and very strange surroundings. What stands out for me in this particular story are the character moments between Crichton and Logan, and Veronica and Aeryn. It manages to work on many levels that left, and still leaves me pleasantly surprised.

My apologies for the extremely late start in reccing Farscape this month. Now, on to the first rec.

Fandom: FARSCAPE
Pairing: none
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] miss_direct
Author Website: Fourteen Lines
Why this must be read:

Once upon a time [livejournal.com profile] farscapefriday held a future tense challenge and Shaye wrote this little gem that captures in 300 words the constants in Olivia Crichton's life; how she herself is a constant while still keeping watch for her brother. What I love about this is the atmosphere and the layers to Olivia's character Shaye manages to make in such a short piece of fiction.

She will have moments of clarity in the long hours of the night, when she understands that all the world has changed, and this is not a homecoming worthy of her brother.

30th-Jul-2007 08:14 pm Heart Like a Wheel Means Racecar Dreams by Thea (NC-17)
This is my last rec for July. It's been a blast and I'm chuffed to see that others have signed up to continue reccing Farscape here at [livejournal.com profile] crack_van! ::leaves the keys in the ignition::

Fandom: FARSCAPE
Pairing: Aeryn Sun/John Crichton
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] thassalia
Author Website: n/a; most Farscape fic can be found here at Leviathan
Why this must be read:

Ben Browder & Claudia Black have stated (though woe! I forget where exactly - chat? or DVD commentary? ::headdesks::) that they played John & Aeryn from mid/late second season and onward as if the pair were intimately involved, which is certainly no stretch given Aeryn's suggestive reply to John at the end of 2.09 Out of Their Minds. But Aeryn and John are still learning about each other, tip-toeing around and screwing up and and neither of them makes it easy on the other, ever.

Thea writes John/Aeryn with just the right mix of snark and sensitivity, angst and hope and an all-encompassing hotness that will leave you weak in the knees. So when she summarizes Heart Like a Wheel Means Racecar Dreams as "Porn. Just porn. And valentines." you *think* you know exactly what you're going to get - and you do get it, in spades, but so much more than you could have hoped for, too.

30th-Jul-2007 07:45 pm Five Ways to Finish a Raslak by Regala Electra (PG-13)
Fandom: FARSCAPE
Pairing: none/gen; Furlow
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] regala_electra
Author Website: n/a; her Farscape fic is tagged here
Why this must be read:

This short fic is a series of five interconnected drabbles, which the author describes as "five different realities" but which can also be read as sequential, as the transitions and plot lines are smooth and logical.

Furlow is a much-reviled character in Farscape fandom, largely due to her role in late season three's two-part episode Infinite Possibilities [spoilers for 3.14 IP: Daedalus Demands and 3.15 IP: Icarus Abides]. Regala Electra has done a marvelous job of portraying Furlow exactly as we saw her onscreen, as well as delivering a wonderfully satisfying bit of poetic justice in exactly five hundred words.

Vidder: Chasa
Musical artist: John Mayer
Pairing: John Crichton/Aeryn Sun
Vidder on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] chasarumba
Vidder's website: DearOne.net
Why this vid kicks ass:

Chasa has perfectly matched artist, song & source material to create the quintessential Terra Firma vid (spoilers through mid-season 4). The wistful acoustic sound & pensive lyrics reflect the melancholy mood of the episode and its emotional fallout - what if you *can* go home again, but can't stay? And what happens when you find love, and lose it, but then have a second chance - once bitten, twice shy?

Fandom: FARSCAPE
Pairing: none/gen; Chiana
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] tassosss
Author Website: n/a
Why this must be read:

This ficlet is a wonderfully rich look at Chiana post-Peacekeeper Wars (spoilers, naturally). Tassos has a deft hand, balancing spare and bleak emotion against the hope of a lush, evocative setting in classic Farscape tradition. And the conversation between Aeryn and Chiana is just so perfectly right that it should have been a filmed scene in the miniseries.

23rd-Jul-2007 02:05 am Said the Spider by Fialka (PG-ish)
Fandom: FARSCAPE
Pairing: none/gen - Aeryn Sun, Scorpius
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] fialka
Author Website: The Candybox
Why this must be read:

From day one, the relationship between Aeryn Sun and John Crichton was always complicated; and never more so than during the bleak, angst-ridden first half of season four. Fialka's dark fairy-tale appropriates characters from nursery rhyme, fits them effortlessly with new symbolism and weaves around them a story of desperation, fear, and betrayal.

Fi's story builds on the events of 4.05 Promises and 4.07 John Quixote in a richly textured, complex fic full of obsession, manipulation and nuance - until the final few lines deliver a jaw-dropping coup de grâce.

Title: Vaster Than Empires by [livejournal.com profile] astrogirl2
Pairing: Zhaan/Jabe
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] astrogirl2
Author Website: other fic in memories here
Why this must be read:

Most of the Farscape-crossover recs so far have been Farscape/Firefly (and there's nothing wrong with that! *g*) - I went round and round trying to choose something different, waffling between a few FS/Stargate fics until I came across this unique story.

Astro has a deft and gentle touch with these two distinctive characters; the tone of the fic balances bittersweet with hope. There isn't much femslash in Farscape, so to find such a delicate and sensual story closely linked to canon is a rarity to be celebrated.

Set post-3.04 Self-Inflicted Wounds: Wait for the Wheel for Farscape and just prior to 1.02 The End of the World for Doctor Who (Nine).

Fandom: FARSCAPE
Pairing: none/gen (Chiana, Rygel, John Crichton, Sikozu)
Author on LJ: n/a
Author Website: n/a; other stories can be found here at Leviathan
Why this must be read: This clever fic takes a typical Farscape/sci-fi plot of "crew goes to planet, trouble ensues" and twists it a little (the title provides a significant clue as to how). ChiMonkey's story is an ensemble gem, which given its setting - just after, and with spoilers for, 4.01 Crichton Kicks - focuses on Chiana, Rygel, and Crichton, a trio not often found working together in Farscape fic.

Fandom: FARSCAPE
Pairing: none/gen
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] sabaceanbabe
Author Website: none; other fic here
Why this must be read:

Good episode filler can be hard to find, sometimes. But what SB has done with this fic [set during and with spoilers through 4.14 Twice Shy] is essentially written the deleted scenes we didn't get to see: the what-happened-next? that wraps up the tale in true Farscape fashion, where nothing is *ever* as simple or easy as it should be.

Good ensemble fic can also be a challenge to write, with so many and so varied a group of characters to manage in the Farscape universe. SB has pegged their voices and turned each character's stereotypes to fine advantage in this cliche-busting story.

5th-Jul-2007 04:22 am Somewhere in the Arabian Sea by Red Star Robot (not rated - Gish?)
Fandom: FARSCAPE
Pairing: none/gen - Aeryn Sun, Stark
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] redstarrobot
Author Website: n/a
Why this must be read:

The relationship between Aeryn & Stark is largely unexplored in Farscape canon, though they have experienced the most intense grief and loss of their lives in each other's company. In RSR's story, they are both seeking - how to move forward with their lives, which choices to make, which path is the right course. They are gentle with one another, beginning to heal with a stoic acceptance and the lingering hope that one day they will regain a measure of joy. [set late season 4, spoilers for 3.04, Self-Inflicted Wounds: Wait for the Wheel & beyond]

Why this vid kicks ass:
Lithium Doll creates masterpieces, not only in the Farscape 'verse, but in many other fandoms as well. She's a master of taking all the elements of the story, the music and the lyrics, and molding them into something that is striking and moving.

Farscape is full of sacrifice, what one would do for another, death and resurrection, despair and hope, grief and joy. In Your Honor encompasses it all. It is simply brilliant.

Why this must be read:
This was a response to [livejournal.com profile] farscapefriday's Warren Zevon song title challenge. There were a lot of great fics written and this is one of my absolute favorites.

John on Earth during Terra Firma breaks me and Stars' fic just twists the knife so much deeper. This gives us a little glimpse of him in his own environment and how he reacts to things. It starts out fairly light and fun, but soon moves onto tense and angsty. And I can picture it all happening so easily.

Thea always writes damn hot sex, and this story is filled with prime examples of it. But there's more than just sex, there's John and Aeryn in perfect voice, there's frustration and reality and the fact that in the Farscape 'verse nothing's ever easy except when it is.

I'm really glad I have another of [livejournal.com profile] hossgal's fics to rec. She is a writer who never fails to amaze me with her storytelling. With beautiful world building and vivid descriptions she puts you right in the middle of every story.

Some characters in Farscape get all the love. This is a story of one who doesn't. You may hate him, you may love him. Guaranteed you'll be touched by this.

Moya made one pass with the docking web, the ship snatching you up like a broad-finned predator of the open sea – diving to pluck you and your burden from the planet's surface, and then racing back up through atmosphere. The speed was incredible, pinning you against the hawser cables with the wind of her passing. The infant sat on your chest like a stone.
