Why this must be read:
I'm not absolutely sure these three snapshots of Stuart go together as a series, but the characterization of Stuart seems consistent enough. Lise's Stuart is pleasure-driven and harsh with himself and others. I don't see him quite this joyless, but I remember being struck by Lise's stories when I first read them, so I'll include them in the month's recs.
