Beneath an Eastern Moon by Kaelie (R-NC-17)

Hello, greetings and salutations, Crack Van Passengers. My name is Lydia and I'll be your popslash crackvan this month. I hope you enjoy the popslash I rec, because I enjoy it a lot. "". These are definitely favorites in my fandom.

Fandom: Popslash
Pairing: Justin/JC with supporting roles of Chris, Joey and Lance and cameo appearances by several in the pop world
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] kaelie
Author Website: The Ghetto

Why this must be read:Kaelie has a most impressive track record and one of her most creative (and longest) stories is Beneath an Eastern Moon. It brings out the potential of good RPS AU. There's such good taste in this AU, such dimension, with asian influences that help along the story instead of overpowering it.

While Beneath is long, the story does pull its reader in rather easily. The characters pop out. The teacher turned prisoner, the golden boy prince who leads a revolution. The Best friend, the effective strategist, the man sent from the next kingdom over. The story plays out like one from an arthouse kung fu film, with five wonderful villains who may sometimes rely on cliche, but most of the time rely upon creative manipulation of real-life traits. The most fascinating parts of this story happen very early on; the taking of the kingdom and the scenes in the dungeon cell. Justin and JC are timid at first, but they move so close into each other that they become one entity with two heads by the end.

While this story may be long, it is well worth the read. This was, in my opinion, the first glimpse of Kaelie's rising Epic popslash AU star.
