Hello everyone. I've been enjoying the good candy from the Van for a while now without doing my time as a pusher, so this month I'll be reccing The OC. I'm looking forward to finding some new-to-me stories, as most of what I've read so far I found here.
Fandom: THE OC
Pairing: Seth/Zach, Seth/Summer, Seth/Ryan UST
Author on LJ:
amerella
Author Website: Her OC fic is memoried here.
Why this must be read:
There's just something about two guys being in love with the same girl that's, well, a little gay. Seth's not sure how gay he is here, but neither is anyone else, so it works out okay. The story gives him the room to discover himself (neatly in character, as is everyone in this story), without ever giving short shrift to the confusion of all the parties involved. And though the frame of this is Seth/Zach, the scenes with Summer are also really vivid, and the thudding, questioning connection between Ryan and Seth made me shiver. It's the kind of story that seems, even within all the canonical restraints of the show, entirely possible.
"Is this about Alex?" Ryan's asking. Déjà vu, and Seth says, "yes, yes it is," quickly, even though it's not and maybe it never was, entirely.
"I would've come with you last night, if you'd asked me to, you know. Or come home," Ryan says, and frowns disapprovingly. He doesn't like when Seth drinks, or does anything grown up like that without him; he likes keeping tabs but not in a bizarre way, just in a brotherly, Ryan-y way, and this makes Seth feel smushy and nicely taken care of, but much too young and a little sick too.
He says, "I know," grudgingly.
"Is she- so you guys are over, for good?" Ryan asks.
"I might see her around. Possibly."
"This has been very enlightening," Ryan tells him, and it's this whole whacked role reversal thing going on. Seth turns his head away, because he's a girl. The Captain stares at him with beady horse eyes.
"It's just, Ryan," Seth says suddenly, because Zach put it in his head and now it's rattling around in there. Like, what is it about him? There's nothing about him, really, so he just doesn't get the question at all. "Do you ever wonder why, like, Summer liked me? Or I mean, why Lindsay likes you, in your case, I guess? Do you think it's my hair? Do you think it's your wrist-cuff?"
He looks back at Ryan and Ryan's looking at him, still concerned, a bit amused now. "Well, it's not your hair," he says, and half-smiles, in that way that he does.
Seth says, "ha, ha," and hits Ryan in the eye with a pillow.
