The Reborn Trilogy by Kenya Starflight (PG)
Fandom: STAR WARS
Pairing: Gen
Length: 125,000 words

Why this must be read:
Luke Skywalker finds a crashed TIE fighter on Yavin soon after the destruction of the Death Star, and is surprised to find the pilot is none other than his worst nightmare: Darth Vader. To make matters worse, not only does the Rebel Alliance have to decide what to do with the Emperor's right-hand man, he's apparently lost his memory!
This is one of the more enjoyable Anakin Skywalker-redemption stories I've read. The amnesia set-up may seem to be a bit of a cliché, but it works out very well. The characters react as you'd expect. No one trusts Vader at first, and no one knows his true identity as Anakin Skywalker, except for ghostly Obi-Wan -- and he's not telling.
Each story in the trilogy occurs around the same time as the corresponding original trilogy movie, with some of the same events, such as the evacuation of Hoth, the training on Dagobah, and the attack on the second Death Star.
Some may claim this story is a bit fluffy, but I find the characters and their actions quite valid considering the circumstances. Vader has lost his memory completely. He has to start fresh, but his basic personality is still intact. The Anakin Skywalker of the prequels, mellowed a bit by age, starts to shine through.
This is a nice story to curl up with and just enjoy. We all need a bit of angsty fluff once in a while.

As soon as she was gone, Leia turned to face Mothma. "Now what are we going to do with him? He's useless as an informant."
She remained expressionless. "I'm not sure."
"We could hold him for ransom," Han suggested. "The Emperor might pay pretty well to get his stooge back."
"Aside from the fact that the Alliance does not stoop to hostage-taking for profit," Mothma said sternly, glaring at the Corellian, "I highly doubt the Empire wants him now that he doesn't even know the Empire exists."
"Well, we don't want him either," Han retorted.
"There's one option left," Leia said. "Put him on trial."
Mothma shook her head. "I don't believe we even have that option."
"What do you mean?"
"His memory is gone. He has no recollection of his crimes. In his mind, he is innocent. Is it truly fair to charge him with crimes he doesn't even know happened?"
"That doesn't change the fact that he committed them," Leia retorted.
"If we don't try him, what are we going to do with him?" added Han. "He can't stay in the base forever."
Mothma began to look thoughtful.
"Oh no," Leia breathed, shaking her head. "We can't possibly..."
"Consider a moment," Mothma encouraged. "Vader is among us. He has no memory. He doesn't remember that he served the Empire for so many years. He doesn't remember why he fought against the Alliance. It's as if he's been reborn, given a fresh start. We can take advantage of this to bring him to our side."
Han stared at her incredulously. "You want to RECRUIT him?!"
