October Misc Fandom: From Eroica With Love

From Eroica With Love (Eroica Yori Ai o Komete) is a series of Japanese manga by Yasuko Aoike. If manga/anime isn't your thing, don't run off yet: the series is largely set in Europe, with European characters. Aoike began writing Eroica in the 70's and continues to publish about one volume per year. This series is literally a kind of Cold War time capsule, but with a most unlikely cast of characters, including its two male leads.

Meet Dorian Red, the Earl of Gloria. British aristocrat by day, and international art thief at night, Dorian moonlights under the alias Eroica. He's flashy and flamboyant, openly gay, and knows what he wants and how to get it.



And Dorian decides that what he'd really, really like is Major Klaus Heinz von dem Eberbach.



Unfortunately for Dorian, the Major (nicknamed "Iron Klaus") is an uptight workaholic, deeply devoted to NATO and his beloved Germany. He's homophobic, and so utterly repressed that he just screams closet case. His Intelligence team is referred to as the Alphabet, with Agents A and B normally showing up in the manga, not to mention the cutie-pie Agent G, who gets put in drag for a mission once, and liked it so well that he continues to cross-dress for the rest of the series. Klaus and his immediate superior, the Chief, aren't on exceptionally good terms.

Dorian's staff includes Bonham, his right-hand man and driver, and James, his hysterical penny-pinching accountant.

In the manga, Dorian and Klaus continue to tangle on a regular basis, as Dorian robs the globe and deliberately insinuates himself into Klaus' missions in order to see him. While they've yet to consumate anything, there's plenty of evidence that Klaus isn't as hostile as he would have Dorian believe.



Dorian himself says to Klaus, "I believe our paths have been crossed somewhere already. I think an entanglement of wire rope and a rose vine is a rather sadistically wonderful combination." So do Eroicafen.

...could you possibly name a few of your favourite authors in this fandom? I have a problem with archives, I rarely find the good stuff unless I know whose fics I'm looking for.
