Why this must be read:
This is the last in the set of fic recs related to Hornblower's troubled marriage and William Bush.
There is an unfortunate cliche in the Hornblower fandom that Bush's position as Hornblower's subordinate officer translates into Bush having no will of his own. Not so. And most definitely not so in this fic.
The William Bush presented here, with his quiet dignity and comportment, asserts himself to Horatio as his lover without disrepecting Horatio and his authority as his Captain. The line is fine for Bush and it presents a difficult dynamic for the character in the storyline, but Rach has fine-tuned that balance in a wonderfully told story.
