"Synergy," by Meredith Lynne (G)
Fandom: SPORTS NIGHT
Pairing: Dan Rydell/Casey McCall
Author on LJ:
mlynne
Author Website: any road.
Why this must be read: With the Trickster archive down, I've had some trouble finding online the favorite Sports Night stories I have in e-mail folders or on my hard drive. Thankfully, Merry's webpage is easy to locate. Even if you decide against reading "Synergy," you should head over to her site and read other stories because they're all good. But I really hope you read "Synergy." It's fun, affecting, has a nice flow, and is just all around well written.
This story portrays all the main SN characters very effectively and will give you a clear picture of them, not only as individuals but also as a group. It provides quite a bit of information on how they see each other and the roles that they play for/with each other. After reading this, you'll understand exactly why Dana calls them a family.
You'll also have a damn good idea of why so many fans call Dan/Casey their one true SN pairing. Merry writes them with the same chemical spark that flares on the series through every aspect of their interaction. They banter wittily, they snark, they care, and they fear the demon that has possessed Dan's computer. Okay, Dan fears it more than Casey, but he's pretty sure Casey will come around to his point of view since that's what Casey usually does. *g*
Everything about this story works; in fact, it works as well as Dan and Casey (and the rest) do. Plus, there's repeated mention of a tie bearing a gorilla and the words "Love Monkey," and how can you possibly go wrong with that?
