Slow Ride by Without Me (PGish)

Fandom: POPSLASH
Pairing: AJ McLean / Nick Carter
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] without_me
Author Website: Kitten Fic
Why this must be read:

So some nice people organized a challenge that went live on Never Gone's release date called The BSB Challenge 2005. To make sure everyone knew about this new trove of stories, I wanted to include one of them here. This story takes place on the bus after one of their club dates during their spring mini-tour. The author investigates the unstated premise that the first time AJ went back on tour after rehab had different decisions then this time and his relationship with Nick in particular has changed but how much is still being negotiated. I love how AJ hits that balance of considering every new-old situation in light of his 2 1/2 years worth of sobriety, but now not being tortured or panicked over every reminder of his past.

A few years ago, he wouldn't have thought to put Nick on the "hard work but worth it" list. As far back as he can remember, Nick's been... well. Easy, usually in every sense of the word. His little brother, his partner in crime, the best fuckbuddy a guy could ask for, and, yeah, the guy who was always, always up for a party.

*If people are paying attention, I am thanked for providing the title. I answered a poll about possible bus story names. Moral of this footnote? Answering silly polls on your friendslist can reap lasting impact!

I really do love this story. The part with the orange? GUH. Just, GUH.

She wrote this as part of a deal we made. I owe her bigtime, now. :-D

P.S. Thank you again (and not just for the title).
