Why this must be read:

I wasn't planning on reccing this, as I just finished reading it two minutes ago (and I have *no idea* how I missed reading it when it first came out), but.

This is a much, much darker look at Jason and at Bruce/Jason than my previous rec. This fic is vaguely AU, and Jason doesn't *quite* die in this universe. Jane never explicitly says what happens to keep Jason alive, but that's not important.

What's important is Jason, four years later, coming home. He's been in Arkham Asylum, he's been on the streets of Gotham, and he is a *very* different person. *This* is a Jason I could actually see becoming the villain Jason currently is in comics canon. I loved the meta-commentary in this fic, which is kind of hard to 'get' if you're not familiar with Batman comics, but is still delicious.



Wakes up in the early evening and there's a different flicker watching him. Almost/not quite Batgirl. She's girl and bat, but all the details are wrong. No hair, no heels, no colourshimmer. Less curves.

Robin's eyes reflect. Batgirl's are completely gone.

She's still looking at him.

He says, "I'm not him. Go away."
