The Angels You Need, by Te and Mary (NC-17)
Fandom: DC COMICS
Pairing: Bruce/Jason, Jason/Steph, Jason/Tim, Tim/Kon, Jason/Clark... quite a few
Author on LJ:
thete1 and
monkeycrackmary
Author Website: Teland and Ink Stigmata
Why this must be read:
I saved the best for last. This is a long, plotty, *long* series by Mary and Te, and it's quite possibly my favorite story in the DCU. It's an AU, centering around a What If: What if Batman died, and Jason lived?
I'm not quite sure what to say about it, aside from the fact that it's brilliant. I love what they've done to every character here, both the subtle changes and the not-so-subtle ones. It retells canon events much better than the actual canon told them, IMHO, and every character, even the ones that only have small cameos, feels absolutely real and absolutely like who they'd be in a universe where Jason was Batman. I warn you beforehand, it's addictive, and you might want to avoid the last story if you dislike cliffhangers.
This is an absolute must-read in this fandom. Even if you don't know who the characters are, read it anyway--because these stories are so different from the actual canon, being extremely familiar with the comics isn't absolutely necessary to read them.
If you only read one story that I rec this month, make it this one.
It's another three weeks before Jason works up the nerve to go down to the Cave. There's no dust or damp or anything so he guesses that Alfred's been coming down. Good. That'll maybe make the inevitable fight a little less heated. They both know what's going to happen, even if neither of them are really ready to say it.
Jason stays down there for a couple of hours and breaks some random crap just to feel it shatter and crumple against his knuckles. Just to hurt. When he leaves he takes one of the batarangs with him and sleeps the night through with it clutched in his hand, the bladed edge biting into his palm hard enough to draw spots of blood along the welt-line. For the first time in two months, he has no nightmares.

...not that the Justice League on Mars isn't the bomb, mind you.

That is one fine fine rec. -_-

Only occasionally, rarely and between the plot, but it *is* there. I didn't mind it at all, it was always treated tastefully, and by that point they're hardly kids, but I thought an FYI might be in order.
