The Mummy / The Mummy returns - Overview

Hi, I am Jass and I will do the Small Fandom support for The Mummy / The Mummy returns this month

Welcome to the world of The Mummy (1999) and The Mummy returns (2001)

Story overview: The Mummy

In ancient Egypt a Pharaoh forbid that any man should touch his mistress Anck Su Namun. But then he found out about the affair of her and his high priest Imotep, and the two of them killed him. Before the pharaoh’s guard, the Med-Ai, could get them, Anck Su Namun committed suicide, knowing that Imotep could bring her back to life. But her plans failed, and the high priest was cursed with the Hom-Dai, the most feared curse of all: He is mummified alive in Hamunaptra, the city of the Dead.

For thousands of years, he suffered under the sand of the desert, until some adventures came along, to get the treasure that was believed to rest under the sand..

The former soldier Rick O'Connell leads Egyptologist Evelyn and her brother Johnathan Carnahan to mysterious Hamunaptra. While treasure does not interest Evy, she wants to find the Book of the Death, but all she and her men find, is a mummy that looks way to juicy.
But the book was found by another group of treasure hunters, and Evy manages to get her hands on it, making the mistake to read a part of it aloud, and bringing the mummy back to life.
Imotep still on the quest to bring his beloved back from the Underworld brings the plagues back to Egypt, and kidnaps Evy, so her body can host Anck Su Namun’s soul.

Some neat CGI battles later, Imotep is back under the sand, and the adventures can ride into the sunset, bringing home some of the treasure.

The Mummy returns

Several years later, Rick and Evy, now a married couple, return to Egypt with their son Alex.
In a tomb Evy gets a strange vision, that allows her to find the lost bracelet of the Scorpion King.
In the desert of Ahm Shere, in a golden pyramid, sleeps the Scorpion King. And he, or whomsoever may kill him, may command the demonic and undefeatable Army of Anubis!
The curator of the British Museum and Meela Nais, the incarnation of Anck Su Namun manage to find and rise Imotep once more, to kill the Scorpion King.

But Alex O'Connell slipped on the bracelet, and is now the guide to Ahm Shere, therefore he gets kidnapped.
In a run against time Imotep has to reach the pyramid, and with the help of old and new friends Rick, Evy and Jonathan manage to fallow them.
A (not so logic) back story shows Evy her destiny, and sets up some more CGI fights.
Of course, in the end once again the world is saved from the evil, and the family is happy together again.

All in all those are two of the best adventure movies of the past years.

Greatest problem with this fandom is that there is no central fanfic archive (that I was able to find in the past 18 months, if you know one, please let me know, and I will add it here).

Dude, there's fanfic for them and I never knew? The Mummy & The Mummy Returns are like, GODS of action-adventure movies. And I always thought Johnathon and Ardeth would be like, omgsohotandcute together. PLEASE TELL ME THAT PEOPLE SLASH THEM TOGETHER!

...I love your icon.

...And to make this vaguely related to the Mummy post, I would like to second both the "Oh my God, this has a fandom and no one told me?" sentiment and the request for Jonathan slash.

Yes, yes, yes! Please tell me there's Ardeth/Jonathan slash.

Kay has written some good Ardeth/Jonathan stuff, which can be found here:

http://ssfdu.tripod.com/kay/kaytm.htm

There is various fiction at "The Wonderful World of Make Believe" (http://www.squidge.org/~peja/mummyreturns/slash.html), of which I particularly recommend the "Falcon and the Dove" series.

Apparently there is also some sort of forum called "God's Own Angels" which has some Ardeth/Jon, but the layout gives me a headache, so I have no idea if it's any good...

You'd have to google it for the address, though. Sorry.

That's all I can think of for now. Hope it helps!

Jonathan/Ardeth fic

I agree, schiannath!

Kay's "Unexpected Comfort" and "Expected Reunion" are wonderful, but the mother of all Jon/Ardeth fics is "The Falcon and the Dove" series by Kristin! It's my all-time fave Jon/Ardeth story!

She has taken a year or so off from writing fic, but now she's back! She and I belong to a yohoo group called "TheMummyPlusSlashandChat". Here is the link:

http://movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/TheMummyPlusSlashAndChat/?yguid=79251177

There you will find a lot of Jon/Ardeth fics and while you are there reading all the stories, maybe you can encourage Kristin to continue "The Falcon and the Dove" epic? What would be really cool too is if any of you Jon/Ardeth fans would like to submit fiction of your own!

Jon/Ardeth slash is my all-time fave couple of fanfic and "The Falcon and the Dove" is absolutely incredible!

A very close second of my all-time fave Jon/Ardeth slash stories is a story called "Alone" at fanfiction.net. Here is the link for the story: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1640674/1/

Currently Katt has 11 chapters up and if you'd like to see her update the story, please leave reviews for her!

Hope this helps!

I love Jon/Ardeth slash too. Would you like the link to a great site with an awesome novel about them? It's called "The Falcon and the Dove."

Mind if I add you as a friend? I sort of jumped the gun and added you already to my friends list, but I can remove you. It's just that I find so few Jon/Ardeth friends that I got all excited. LOL.

I am much with the Ardeth-love but I've never written it and my journal is largely personal stuff with occasional Highlander forays. No Mummy, I'm sorry.

Excellent! I look forward to your recs. I've only ever flound a few and feel there should be much much more!

[identity profile] eiranea.livejournal.com 2005-07-02 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooh, finally. Recs that may well actually be interesting.

I wonder if you'll rec anything that I've already read? I'll be keeping an eye on them anyway

OMFG SQUEEEE!!!

Fantastic Overview, and thank you thank you thank you for driving this fandom!

BTW, I realise I'm way in the minority here, but please tell me there's good het for this fandom? Evey/Rick and Ankh-Sun-Amun/Imhotep? Failing that there's gotta be some decent Nefertiti/Ankh-Sun-Amun femslash...

[identity profile] adrianabr.livejournal.com 2005-07-05 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Is there a fandom about The Mummy? How interesting, I couldn't imagine there were people out there writing slash about those characters, I'm curious to see what you'll rec!
