The Descent to Humanity by Anne Carr (PG)
Fandom: THE PROFESSIONALS
Pairing: Bodie/Doyle

Why this must be read:
Hi, it’s Kiwisue again, driving “The Professionals" van for another 31 days. I am soooo going to monkey with your brains this month. Serves you right for not volunteering *g*!
Well, it won’t be as bad as all that – BUT I am interested in exploring some of the more ‘controversial’ areas of ‘The Professionals’ fandom, mainly because when I first started reading in Pros, I read or heard comments that made me ask lots of questions:
“so what is ‘Cat Tales’ anyway?"
“what is a ‘curtain’ fic?” (I don’t think this is unique to Pros, btw)
“what is so bad about Jane of Australia?”
Dedicated researcher that I am, I found some answers, came to some conclusions and developed opinions of my own. Which I will now be pleased to share with you, of course. In instalments.
Hint 1: the theme for the month is – Sequel-itis OR When Enough Is Enough OR When You’ve Done One Good Thing, STOP!
Hint 2: I will not be recommending anything truly awful. In fact they will all be great stories. Trust me!
Now to the whys of this particular rec:
Because everyone should read at least one Pros elf story, even if they think the whole idea a little odd, or worse.
Because this is the grandmother of all “Professionals” elf stories, written by an established Pros author, with a good grasp of both language and storytelling.
Because I generally hate elf stories, but I enjoyed this one. I liked the way it wove the AU aspects into canon. I liked the physical description of Doyle’s change from elf to human, and his interaction with Bodie. And the ending is simply lovely.

I'm relatively new to the fandom (going on a year now) and will be interested in finding our what a "curtain fic" is.
And I'm not ashamed to say that I like Jane of Australia..
Thanks so much for stepping up to the plate again!
