Everyone's Gotta Have a Comeback by Thea (NC-17)

Why this must be read:

I mentioned in my introductory post that I love angst, and this is just the beginning. Many writers have written stories of Aeryn's activities while she was away from Moya during the hiatus from season three to four. Thea creates a dark and painful tale where Crais and Aeryn cross paths, both dealing with their grief in different ways. Crais wants from Aeryn what she's unwilling to give, but he will freely take whatever she offers.

He poured Luxan brandy into two metal tumblers, handing her one. When she reluctantly accepted the cup, he withdrew the chip from his pocket and held it up.

"It's a trade, Aeryn. You give me what I want, and I'll give you what you want."

She swallowed the brandy quickly and set the cup on the table with careful, forced precision. "I have the payment, but you would have taken that in the bar. So what do you want?" she asked, stepping forward into his space. "Are you trying to resurrect old bargains here? You can't possibly be holding out because you want me." She laughed. "And what makes you think that I'd give you that. When you were a part of Talyn, perhaps, but now?"

Her laughter was cruel, dismissive and calculated.

"You claim to want this information."

"It can be obtained elsewhere."

He took a sip of the brandy. "No. It can't. Lechna isn't a fool. My intel is reliable because no one trusts me, but they also realize I am not on anyone's side either. Any other intelligence on the Hokothians will be suspect. You know that as well. This is your operation, isn't it?"

She nodded, sharp and tight.

"Then you will do what is necessary to get it. You are many things, Aeryn, but you have never been interested in failure, in the retreat."

"Do you honestly think that I'd shy away from something as base as recreation, Crais? Do you think the process scares me? Bodies together, nothing more."

That stung more than he wanted to admit.

"Which is why you and Crichton had to constantly be pried apart to attend to the needs of Talyn and his crew."

"Unfair," she said, "And irrelevant. This…" she gestured between them, and her tone was fierce, deadly, "whatever peace we made, have made in past, whatever may happen in this room has nothing to do with John and I."
