Why this must be read:
I love this story, and I read it often, because it's a beautiful and brutal "what-if" story about Aeryn's time away from Moya -- if John had gone with her. The authors are quick to warn the readers about its dark themes and violence, and with good reason. But I think the characterization is spot-on for both John and Aeryn, and it has some of the livliest, richly drawn OC's I've read in a long while (they also happen to make appearances in some of ScaperRed's other fics). Keep in mind that this story is a novella, so get settled in for the long haul and enjoy.
