The Boondock Saints: An Overview

I've tried to keep movie spoilers to a minimum (as much as I can and still talk about it).

Main Characters:

Connor & Murphy McManus
Main characters. Brothers. Saints. Also both very hot, clever and witty. Occasionally shirtless. Look very sexy holding guns. Look at each other in very sexy ways. What more could you want?

Agent Paul Smecker
The FBI agent trailing the McManus brothers. Sexy, campy and little disturbing. Also, really, really gay. Again I ask: what more could you want?

Detectives Greenly, Duffy and Dolly
The three Boston cops working with Agent Smecker. Someone really needs to write serious and angsty Smecker/Greenly for me.

Rocco AKA the Funny Man
Small time numbers runner for the mafia. Long time friend of Connor and Murph. Totally dorky, but vaguely endearing.

Il Duce
Psycho hitman. Won't kill women or children. Has a special love for killing mobsters.

There also assorted mobsters and bad guys at every turn.

The Movie:

The film centers around Irish twins, Connor and Murphy McManus. Set in Southie, an old Irish ghetto of Boston, the boys are deeply religious and eventually given a mission by God to rid the world of evil men. Beginning with a self defense killing they eventually start killing with devotion, gunning down the Russian mafia. The Boston cops and an FBI agent begin tracking them as they work their way through the seedy underbelly of Boston.

This film never made theatrical release in the US, as it was set to come out in the week following the Columbine shootings. It's very enjoyable for all its violence. Get it on DVD if you can, the deleted scenes are incredible.

Boondock Saints is incredibly slashy. It’s certainly isn’t a fandom for everyone, as the leads are brothers, but there’s a bond between them that’s really wonderful to write about and read about even if you don’t go as far as slashing them. There are heavy religious tones to the film, which are beautifully done, setting it up as faith rather than doctrine. The film leaves a wide future open for gen, het and slash fic.

***

The McManus Family Prayer:
And shepherds we shall be,
for thee my lord for thee.
Power hath decended forth from thy hand
so our feet may swiftly carry out thy command.
And we shall flow a river forth to thee
and teeming with souls shall it ever be.
In nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti.

This is a relatively new and fairly small fandom. Folks on the Veritas Fic mailing list can probably answer any questions you have.

Comment to add anything I missed!
