Why this must be read:

I love Brighid's work, I always have, so one of her stories had to be in my recs for this month. I went with Referencing because it has everything that makes Brighid's stories wonderful -- a great baseline idea and a lyrical telling that just sucks you in.

Accidents are bound to happen when the team keeps coming into contact with alien technology that they don't really understand while searching for a ZPM. That is the case here. It's a great use of it as a deux ex machina to explore the ramifications of past and future actions. Dork Side picks up after Referencing and takes things a step further.

Rodney's mouth thinned with impatience and John didn't even have to look, he could *feel* the eye roll. Rodney's finger jabbed at the main console, indicating a sequence of code emanating from the source of the beacon. "Because *that* is the energy signature for a ZPM."

"Right then. Flying that way," said John, making the necessary course alteration. "How strong is that signature, anyway?"

"Well, it's not a trip home, but it would keep the shield's up."

"For how long?" Ford asked.

"A long time. I can give you a more exact measurement as soon as we hurry up and actually *get* there," he said with a single, pointed glance at John.

John snorted. "Your family ever do any long trips to Disneyland or anything like that when you were a kid, McKay?"

Rodney paused in his note taking. "No. My parents sent me to camp. Space Camp, once. And what possible relevance does that have?"

"Just testing a theory," John said easily
