The Rest is Silence by Merrin (PG)

Fandom: THE LORD OF THE RINGS
Pairing: Two original characters
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] walkawayslowly
Author Webiste: Happier Endings

Why this must be read: Because you're already looking at me strangely for reccing a story without any of the main characters of Lord of the Rings playing a huge role. The premise is simple: who are the poor souls who had to sit in the mountains for days and months just in case Gondor ever chose to light the beacons?

This is the tale of Deragar and Bremand, two men charged with keeping that watch. Beautifully written, it casts the familiar story of the Lord of the Rings through a new prism--how people not involved in the highest echelons of power see the war.

You'll love it. Trust me.

Merrin's a sweetheart and a fantastic author. She's written some wonderful SG1 and popfic as well. :)

Honestly, when I wrote this story, I never expected anyone beyond my betas (those I physically forced to do so...) to read this story. I can't believe you read it and recced it! You're fabulous! Thank you! I'm glad you liked it enough to wish it on others. :)

Thanks for reccing this - I'm really into OC fic that explores the tantalising gaps that occur when authors/directors create worlds and ignore most of the population. Have left feedback for author.
