Why this must be read:
Written for the Don We Now Our Gay Apparel holiday challenge this is a fantastic AU in which JC is a busker in New York City and Nick is a struggling painter. I love AUs like this, the kind that take place in the real world. This one is especially fun because so many pop characters are in it and it's always been enjoyable to me to see what kinds of jobs authors give them in an AU like this.
Two weeks playing and he's not exactly rolling in the dough. For a couple of days he thought he had a fan, because she was always there towards the end of his set, and that made him feel good if not any more wealthy.
Yesterday, though, he hung around after he finished. He thought about talking to her because she was really pretty and a fan, after all. But then the breakdancing crew started up and she wasn't paying attention to him at all. Oh, he thought.
They were good. Which was a pleasant discovery but also didn't make him any wealthier.
And it made him out a fan.

bitterchick, who has been recced on
crack_van multiple times, is closing down her website at the end of this month. You can read about it here. She's been wonderful enough to give everyone the heads up and the opportunity to download a really easy zip file of the entire website if interested. Also, she's written up a cliff's notes version of the ending of the Venice Beach AU so if you've ever read and loved that story, I highly suggest reading that post, too.
