"A Sandwich Is a Transitory Thing," by Debchan (R)
Fandom: SPORTS NIGHT
Pairing: Casey McCall/Dan Rydell
Author on LJ:
debchan
Author Website: debchan.com
Why this must be read: The story flows really well, and it focuses on Casey and Dan without excluding everyone else or making others seem trivial or cartoonish. Jeremy's obsessive geeky tendencies are played up beautifully in a way that brings the whole piece together and works to compel rather than impede its progression. This story is realistic in the odd way that only Aaron Sorkin's characters can be.
In "Sandwich," humor is combined with the kind of snarky terseness that's characteristic of Dan and Casey, especially during personal conversations, and that works well. I'd say 'surprisingly well,' except that Sorkin wrote his episodes the same way, so I've seen how well that style works on the show. And reading this story is a lot like reading an episode transcript.
"A Sandwich Is a Transitory Thing" is one of those memorable stories that I can read over and over and be just as entertained every time. Hopefully you'll feel the same way.

(Sorry, that was kind of incoherent...it's late and I'm using the Internet as a weapon against insomnia. It's not working all that well.)

You're welcome, and thank you. I'm very glad that you enjoyed the stories I recommended. =o)
They inspire me to write my own sad, pallid ones that will probably never see the light beyond my hard drive.
Oh, do share!
P.S.: I recced the maximum in my official capacity, but just as one SN fan to another, I think you'd also enjoy "This Year's Prom Theme." (http://www.debchan.com/skalab/prom.html)

I kinda would like to get commentary and such on the stuff I'm writing, if you can recommend somewhere to send them.

I'm glad you liked it. =) I was lucky, in that I started reading & writing SN fic while the show was still on. I joined the slashsn Yahoo!Group and got to read all the wonderful fic coming through that list before being posted to the [then-active] Trickster archive. So, most of what I recommended, I originally read on the slashsn list and then saved or just remembered well enough to be able to rec.

Well, slashsn has been more quiet of late, but it still boasts a lot of members who enjoy reading Sports Night slash, so you could join and post there if your stories are slash. Also, since
