The Matchmaker by Rimau (R)

Hi, I'm Melannen, and I'm your HL dealer for this month. You'll know me by the icon. Highlander is a fandom that is currently very quiet, and with over 150 recs already in the memories, it's not been easy to find good fresh stories. But this month, I'm going to do my best to rec only authors who have never been on the HL crack_van before. We're going to end up with a great pile of hidden gems, I hope.

Fandom: HIGHLANDER
Pairing:  Duncan/Methos
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] sua_lay
Author Website: Rimau's Slash Archive
Why this must be read:

I was shocked that nobody had gotten to this one yet! Connor MacLeod comes to Seacouver to visit his cousin. Unfortunately, Duncan's gone missing -- and what's up with this mouthy kid Adam Pierson, and just who does he think he is?

It turns out that Duncan's been kidnapped and the two of them set off to rescue him, with Joe running interference, in a story that could have been an episode on the show. You can take *that* as a compliment, or not: but it becomes a framework for some lovely character interaction, lots of pretty men playing with swords, and Connor's sense of humor run amuck. Yes, Duncan and Methos are madly in love with each other and too dense to realise it (everybody knows *that*!) but the real joy here isn't the slash -- it's the slowly building friendship between Connor and Methos, as they gleefully manipulate each other up one side and down the other.

There's a longer sequel/prequel/companion, too, written from Methos's point of view: The Hunt. It gets a bit tedious sometimes in the areas of overlap, but it's worth it for the look inside Methos's twisty brain. And the NC-17 sex, yes, I suppose.

Highlander is a fandom that is currently very quiet, and with over 150 recs already in the memories, it's not been easy to find good fresh stories.

Not an auspicious start for a month of recs, I have to say, particularly in a fandom with thousands of stories archived.

The fandom isn't large, but writers are still active. If you haven't been keeping up, you could look at [livejournal.com profile] hl_flash for updates on stories published on LJ (including monthly lists). The recent [livejournal.com profile] hl_remix challenge resulted in 12 stories, one of which at least, you might find interesting. The previous round of remixes also resulted in some fine work, as did the Bar Story challenge earlier in the year.

Thank you for the rec. That was a story I had forgotten I loved. It was so nice to reread it again.

I am looking forward to more of your recs!

This is an old favourite of mine. Thanks for reminding me how much I love it.

Good Rec

I really enjoyed rereading both of these stories. Seeing the story from two perspectives was facinating.
