Such a Long Journey by PR Zed (PG)
Fandom: THE PROFESSIONALS
Pairing: Bodie/Doyle
Author on LJ:
przed
Author Website: Zed's Place
Why this must be read: PR Zed has a real ear for language and I adore the dialogue sections in this fic. Bodie's been injured - again - and Doyle realizes he cares about the daft sod sleeping in his passenger seat a lot more than he wants to admit. The story's full of small moments of affection, witty dialogues that ring perfectly true, and the reality that maybe sex isn't such a good idea when somebody's injured. The boys have to settle for less ... for now, and I like that the author didn't force a scene where there didn't need to be one. There's a definite feeling of completeness even without a culmination. Pour yourself a cuppa and enjoy.
"Don't trust me?" Bodie looked at him with hurt in his eyes that was at least half feigned.
"To look after yourself? Not bloody likely, mate. You'd stick a plaster on a gunshot wound and call it sorted."
"I'm not that bad, surely."
"Not quite that bad," Doyle admitted. "But bad enough."
"You should look in a mirror some time. You could give a university lecture series on the lack of sense shown by CI5 operatives when recovering from major injury."
