The Sound of Your Voice by Dayse (PG-13)
Hello! I'm
chickpea, and I'll be your popslash van driver for the month. I started reading popslash way back in 1999 or 2000... don't remember. I've sort of tapered off now, so most of my recs will be old school(/skool) fics of the *NSYNC persuasion, with some newer fics and crossovers thrown in the mix (or, *N the Mix! Aahahaha... sorry). I also have a deep fondness for Joey, so you'll see him quite a bit in my recs. Hope you enjoy the ride. [revs engine]

Why this must be read: This story is alternately creepy and sweet, and the ending manages to let you feel both at the same time. Joey is unreachable, and JC has the hardest time dealing with this. The story is told in snatches, through emails and phone messages, and the time lapses in the story build suspense until the denouement. JC's slow descent is heartbreaking to feel. Most of all, Joey and JC end up together, except it's sad and creepy, too.
"This is Joey, leave a message and I'll get back to ya."
*beep*
"Joe, hey! Chris said that your phone was workin' so I thought I'd just leave a message too, ya know? How ya doin'?"
