Why this must be read:
Well written, incorporating a few secondary characters and a certain reoccurring piece of technology from the series, and on occasion referring to some of the grimmer aspects of being an agent of the Service. This reads rather like an episode that was never filmed.
The author originally planned to write a sequel, so there are a few questions raised that are not fully explained. However, the story does stand on its own.

A footnote for those who care: the conspiracy stuff in the last section was loosely lifted from "Holy Blood, Holy Grail," now better known as "that book that the authors are suing the 'Da Vinci Code' guy for using all their ideas."
I have fragmentary scenes and some plot summaries from "Sang Real," the uncompleted sequel, which I could put on my site if it would appeal to anybody.
