Why this must be read: One aspect that shines from this trilogy is Katta's sense of characterization. Her character voices, actions, and attitudes are spot on, and she does a wonderful job at creating original characters that only add to the storyline. She sets up a tense relationship between Doyle and the rest of Angel Investigations when they discover that Doyle's been unwillingly brought back by the PTB and hasn't bothered to contact them. At the heart of the trilogy is a theme of family: the ones we create and the ones we're born into.
