Why this must be read:
Before I realized it, I had a Remus-centric theme going with my recs, so here's the first story with an angsty Remus. R and D, the first story in the series, is focused more on Snape, while The Waltz Continues is more of a Remus hurt/comfort story from Snape's POV, but because it's the least sad of all my Remus recs, I'll start off with this one first.

I appreciate the many grounding details, the potions making, and the pronounced lack of sentimentality in the first story. Although there's a pairing, it's decidedly unromantic. I think that makes the SS/RL pairing work. I love this Remus, and there's humor of a dry sort. Also, Mad Moody is a significant player in the events, so that makes me happy. The second major installment (Werewolf Sought! is more of a background interlude) has more emotion, but the schmoop factor isn't an issue: both Severus and Remus are in character.
