Why this must be read:

Set during the early years of the US's exploration and growth, Pacific is the story of a group of explorers looking for an alternate route to the Pacific Ocean. They are men living outside of the rules of society, but still needing love, comfort, companionship and working to overcome their societal prejudices to get those needs met. Juli alternates POV, so we can see the journey, and the changes and hardships they all have to face, from all angles. The characters are well-written and strongly represented; it's not just this pairing or that pairing, but interaction between all five of them as they struggle west. It's a long, satisfying read, and when you get to the end you'll wish there was about double of what there was :)
