Why this must be read: Analise has been recced already on Crack_Van for her fabulous post-colonization story The Weight of the World. But she also has a number of shorter, less ambitious stories. Shorter they may be, but the plots are as creative, the characterization as sure, and the prose as smooth.
One Split Second takes a done-to-death cliche of a bad encounter on a commerce planet and turns it into a thoughtful look at, well, not wasting the little time we have. It's a marvelous story that slots perfectly into canon and provides a confident Crichton voice.
